Youth
Ambassadors
Purpose
Youth Ambassadors meet monthly to discuss issues of concern
to their peers, plan activities, participate in Seton Youth
Shelters fundraising activities and assist
Seton Youth Shelters
in fulfilling its mission statement. Seton
Youth Ambassadors serve as an outreach component in their
respective schools,
providing a unique Youth presence. Seton Youth
Ambassadors are a vital group of volunteers who have ideas,
energy and
the opportunity to reach teens who need help.
Goals
Increase Outreach to Teens in Crisis.
Provide Youth input into Seton Youth Shelters programs.
Assist Seton Youth Shelters, through youth/adult partnerships,
to fulfill our mission.
Meetings
Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month from
5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
History
Seton Youth Ambassadors were founded in September 1998
and two Youth Ambassadors
serve as voting
members of our Board of Directors. Youth
Ambassadors have participated annually in the
Cardboard Boat Regatta, decorating both shelters
for the holidays, and have assisted
in constructing the walkway from St
Aidan’s
parking lot to the Girl’s
Shelter.
They have attended local youth conferences
and the Mid-Atlantic Network of Youth and Family
Services (MANY) Conferences.
Youth Ambassadors respond to requests from
the community to assist in their projects and speak
on behalf of
Seton Youth
Shelters. Youth Ambassadors sponsor activities
with the residents of the shelters and serve
as an outreach
contact in the schools
they attend.
Each year, two Youth Ambassadors are awarded
the Donna Rowe Memorial Scholarship to assist
in meeting their educational goals.
Seton Youth Ambassadors received
the 2002 and 2004 Volunteer Hampton Roads
Achievement Award for the Youth
Group Division, and also were the recipients
of the 2003
Safe Harbor Award. Youth Ambassadors provide
Seton Youth Shelters
with a rich history of youth/adult partnerships
that help build a stronger community.
